PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine which can adjust suitably the amount of oil in the crankcase while simplifying the structure for engine lubrication. SOLUTION: Adjacent to a crankcase 20, a U-shaped type of oil reservoir 22 is formed by surrounding the crankcase 20, and small holes 56 are formed on a separating wall 55 which demarcates the oil reservoir 22 and the crankcase 20, and at all times the crankcase 20 is connected with the oil reservoir 22 through these small holes 56. By the flow resistance performed by the small holes 56, the internal pressure Po in the oil reservoir 22 varies with the delay by changing of the internal pressure Pc in the crankcase 20, therefore the oil in the oil reservoir 22 is introduced to the crankcase 20 by the difference between the pressures with the delay in the oil reservoir 22 and in the crankcase 20, and also an excessive oil in the crankcase 20 can recirculate to the oil reservoir 22.
