PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium change type magnetic recording and reproducing device which has excellent read-out characteristics and interchangeability. SOLUTION: When the occurrence of read-out error is informed from a data controller 6 during read-out from a recording medium 20, a microcomputer 11 performs read-out again after performing rotation waiting and recarry. In the case a read-out error is caused again, a DAC 9 for setting boost quantity and a DAC 10 for setting cut-off frequency and controlled, boost quantity of a filter circuit 3 and a cut-off frequency are changed, and read-out is performed again.
