PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital image display device which is capable of realizing good gradation even with a simple and inexpensive circuitry by enhancing efficiency in a light source utilization. SOLUTION: This device is the digital image display device 1 to represent the gradation of the picture 25a by weighting a light emitting time of the pixel 25a on a bit plane by bit plane basis mainly through a pulse width modulation method in plural bit planes each of which has plural pixels 25a arranged in a matrix form, and is equipped with the optical space modulators 7, 7a to binary modulate to light or not to light the light source 5 emitting on each one of pixel 25a and the control means 11 to control the optical space modulator so that plural pixels 25a can be sequentially driven on line by line in a unit where plural pixels 25a are grouped on plural lines.
