PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image read system mainly consisting of an image reader and a host device connected to the image reader to receive provision of image data, that sets image read conditions to instruct read start independently of the operation of the host device and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: The image reader describes a read condition for execution of image read operations according to a predetermined form on a top page of original sheets placed on the image reader and transfers image data resulting from reading the top original page before reading the original to a host device. Furthermore, the image reader stores control procedures to set the read conditions to a computer-readable recording medium as part of a driver program before the reading of the image.
