PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative ion generator for generating a large amount of negative ions built in an air cleaner. SOLUTION: An electrode 7 is installed in an air passage near an air outlet 4 of a frame 1 for blowing out air from an air outlet fan 5, and a conductive member 8 insulated from a contact member is arranged within the frame 1 separated from the electrode 7. High-voltage terminals 6b and 6c for outputting high DC voltage by a high voltage transformer 6 and a rectifying circuit 6a are installed within the frame 1, a negative high-voltage terminal 6b is connected to the electrode 7, a plus high voltage terminal 6c is connected to the conductive member 8 within the frame 1, and DC high voltage is applied to apart between the electrode 7 and the conductive member 8, so as to generate a large amount of negative ions in the air passage 2.
