PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device which can shorten duration from obtaining data of photometry to start of main exposure, duration from closing of a shutter to reading of image data and interval between pre-radiation and main radiation of light especially if capturing of image needs a flash and quickly obtain image data with better quality. SOLUTION: When mode of driving an image device is switched, the first shortened vertical transfer duration V3 shorter than ordinary vertical shortened duration V is generated and the second shortened vertical transfer duration V2 shorter than ordinary vertical shortened duration V is generated after predetermined duration F when a shutter closes. When image pickup needs a flash, pre-radiating of light is performed just before reading signal SG which means end of exposure time with the flash and main radiating of light is performed right after start of main exposure.
