PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone set which makes it possible to generate and send voice mail to an opposite side anywhere without voicing words and can send the mail to the opposite side without referencing to the telephone company that the opposite telephone set belongs to and the kind of the opposite telephone set because of the voice mail. SOLUTION: When a character message is inputted, it is converted into a voice message, which is sent as voice mail to an opposite side. In concrete, voice data corresponding to inputted characters are selected from a memory each time the characters are inputted, pieces of voice data are connected to generate voice message data (voice message) corresponding to the inputted character message, and the voice message data are stored in the memory. Then when calling operation is done and the opposite party answers, the voice message data are read out of the memory and converted through voice synthesizing processing into voice, which is sent as voice mail to the opposite party.
