PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intercom unit by which a user can recognize who is a visitor before an intercom speech even from a visit place in the case there is the visitor while the user is away from his house. SOLUTION: When a visitor makes a call operation of the intercom unit during an absent mode, the intercom unit uses a camera to pick up an image of the visitor, identifies the visitor based on the image. In the case that the visitor matches with data of people registered in a database 51 as a result of the identification, the intercom unit transmits the name of the visitor registered in the database 51 or the like to the visiting place in voice.
