PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping device capable of increasing damping force per unit length in the axial direction. SOLUTION: This damping device is provided with a motion converting part 21 for converting relative linear motion to rotating motion of a rotating element 30, and a damping part 22 for resisting the rotating motion of the rotating element 30. The damping portion 22 comprises the rotating element 30, an inner periphery side sealing layer 34 provided on the inner periphery side of the rotating element 30 and in which a viscous fluid is sealed, and an outer periphery. side sealing layer 33 provided in the outer periphery of the rotating element 30 and in which the viscous fluid is sealed. Each of the inner periphery side sealing layer 34 and the outer periphery side sealing layer 33 is made to resist the rotating motion of the rotating element 30, so that damping force per unit length in the axial direction of the rotating element can be increased.
