METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATICALLY AND REMOTELY SWITCHING TELECOMMUNICATIONS HARDWARE

A method and system in a telecommunications network for automatically and remotely switching telecommunications hardware during a maintenance exchange, wherein the telecommunications hardware include data access lines and antenna devices. Initially, an original signaling device is determined, wherein the original signaling device is connected to a data access line and an antenna device within a cell of the telecommunications network. A new signaling device is thereafter designated to replace the original signaling device. The original signaling device and the new signaling device are linked to a switching mechanism for automatically and remotely switching the data access line and the antenna device from the original signaling device to the new signaling device, thereby permitting switching to automatically and remotely occur during an exchange of the original signaling device to the new signaling device within the cell of the telecommunications network. The data access line typically is composed of a T1 data line. The switching mechanism is configured as a control box that includes a power supply, a T1 switch connected to the T1 data line, and a control port for remotely and externally accessing the control box.
