A sensor is arranged in the focus of optical lens system, such that the overall detection area of the sensor is increased and the external light which impinges on the area is detected integrally. The sensor is used with a vehicle as a day light sensor and the display illumination is changed as a control value anti proportionally to the outside light conditions. An Independent claim is also included for device for determining light intensity.
