The inventive device for tensioning and closing hoop bands has a band stop (24) for the inner band edges (27) of the band ends (20, 21) to be welded. According to the invention, the band stop is provided with a band width adjusting device (28) with the aid of which the band stop shifts perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the hoop band in the housing. This enables the device to be adjusted to different width hoop bands without modifying the device.
