A cleaning medium (I), to be transported through the printing zone of an ink-jet printer to clean the paper conveyor belt, comprises an absorbent layer having a surface making frictional contact with the belt to scour ink from the band, the ink being absorbed in the layer. An Independent claim is also included for a method for cleaning an endless conveyor belt for ink-jet printer paper, comprising: (a) feeding a cleaning medium from the inlet into a printing zone, in which the medium makes frictional contact with the belt; (b) passing the medium through the printing zone in surface contact with the belt, so that ink adhering to the band is absorbed into the medium; and (c) removing the medium from the zone.
