A vehicle for monitoring the speed of a preceding vehicle is provided with apparatus comprising an instrument panel 2 containing a time meter 3 accurate within one tenth of a second and a distance meter 4 registering metres or equivalent units of distance, a mirror 8 and objective 9 for forming concurrently a multiple image comprising an image of the panel 2 superimposed on an image of the preceding vehicle at a given time, and a camera 1 for taking successive photographs of such multiple images over an interval of time. The distance meter can be reset to zero manually, it is preferably set into operation shortly before the first monitoring exposure and may be started automatically by releasing the first exposure. For greater accuracy the time meter 3 may be accurate within a hundredth of a second. |
