<p>A remote test interface (36) for testing a communication path (40) for digital subscriber line (DSL) signals includes a relay matrix that is coupled in the communication path (40) between a DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM)(28) and a DSL modem (39) located at a customer premises (30). The remote test interface (36) also includes a processor that is coupled to the relay matrix and that communicates with a loop management device (26) that is coupled in the communication path (40)between the remote test interface (36) and the DSLAM (28). This communication is performed using voice-band signals transmitted over the communication path (40). The remote test interface (36) further includes a signaling detector that is coupled to the communication path (40) and operable to detect a start test signal from the loop management device (26) that instructs the remote test interface (36) to prepare for testing of the communication path (40) by the loop management device (26) in collaboration with the remote test interface (36).</p> |
