Magnet contains hard magnetic grains (K). The grains in the surface layer of the magnet are separated from each other by a first phase (P1) and the grains in the remaining part of the magnet are separated from each other by a non-magnetic second phase (P2). The first phase is more corrosion resistant than the second phase. The first phase has a further element in addition to the elements contained in the second phase. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of a magnet. Preferred Features: The first phase has the composition: SE6T14-xMx (where, SE = rare earth, preferably Nd, Pr and/or Dy; T = transition metal, at least Fe; and M = the further element, preferably Al, Si, Cu, Ga, Sn and/or Bi; and x is not less than 1).
