The chuck for holding a cylindrical tool (1) has pairs of inner (9, 11) and outer (7, 8) jaws. The radius of the inner surface of each inner jaw corresponds to that of the tool. Both inner and outer jaws have an internal radius which is different from the external radius, forming a thinner section at one end. The thin sections on the outer jaws are opposite those on the inner jaws when they are assembled. A clamping ring (2) fits over the outer jaws and an O-ring (21)is fitted into a groove in the outer surface of the outer jaws.
