A target lane of a traveling object to be controlled is initialized with a predetermined path, that is subsequently modified in accordance with the environmental conditions. The target lane is defined by the course of the track of an object that the object to be controlled is to follow. The modification of the target lane is performed dynamically while the object to be controlled is moving, based on the detection of temporally changing environmental conditions.
