Determination of layer thickness of final surface coat applied by surface finishing machine using inclination sensor

A sensor (28) located at a distance (A) from the rear edge (26) of the screeding tool (16) measures the height (hs) of the tow arm (18) from the sub-surface. The angle of the arm to a horizontal through the arm pivot (20) is measured by an inclination sensor (30). These provide geometrical relationships for determining the final layer thickness (he). A sensor (33) measures the road slope to provide a correction factor for the above calculations.
