<p>A magnetic thin film which can be produced by the same dry process as that for a magnetoresistance element forming a reproduction head, and is provided with excellent soft magnetic characteristics suitable as a recording head magnetic pole material and having a saturation magnetic flux density of at least 2T and a coercive force of up to 2 Oe; a production method therefor; and a magnetic head using it, a magnetic recording device and a magnetic device. The magnetic thin film is characterized by being an iron carbide film having a martensite (α') phase as its main phase and containing at least carbon and iron as constituting elements. This iron carbide film is preferably in a form consisting of α' single phase, is a magnetic thin film specified by having a diffraction peak from α'-phase's (002) plane observed as a main peak by an X-ray diffraction method or an electron beam diffraction method, is provided with a body-centered tetragonal structure, and has a difficult-to-magnetize c-axis approximately vertical to the film surface and an easy-to-magnetize c-plane approximately horizontal to the film surface.</p> |
