Method for dyeing natural fibre-based woven fabrics comprises using carbon dioxide as solvent for the dye. The dying process comprises coating the fabric with a varnish which contains no natural resins before contacting with a solution of dye in carbon dioxide. Otherwise, the fabric (e.g. cotton, silk or linen) is prepared as usual and dried after dyeing.
