The thickness of the throat (2) reduces from a soldering edge to the start (8) of a parallel region (2.1) of the throat. The thickness along a section (B-B) defined by the direction of the major axis of the screen (1), is greater than the thickness (d) along a section (A-A) defined by the direction of the diagonals of the screen, in dependence on the height above the soldering edge, up to more than 50 per cent of the height above the soldering edge. An Independent claim is included for a method of manufacturing a screen throat.
