The invention relates to a protective device for machines such as bending presses, cutting machines, punching machines or the like, wherein a first machine part (10) carries out work strokes vis-à-vis a second machine part (11). A light barrier system (19, 20) is disposed on the movable machine par t (10) between the machine parts and stops the work stroke by means of a stopping device when the light beam is interrupted. A control device for the work stroke of the movable machine part (10) reduces the speed to a speed below a threshold speed immediately before the light beam is interrupted by the other machine part (11). The work speed is detected by a speed measuring device (25, 26) and the stopping device is at least partially deactivated below a defined threshold speed so that the work stroke can be completed eve n if the light beam is interrupted by the other machine part (11). Such a spee d measuring device can also be retrofitted on the exterior of the machine in a simple manner. |
