Production of porous or dense shaped products comprises: mixing an infusible powder (not meltable below 500 deg C) with hydrocarbons having different vapor pressures to obtain a flowable or plastically deformable mixture; shaping the mixture at a temperature such that at no stage are all of the hydrocarbons cooled below their melting point; evaporating and/or burning off the hydrocarbons; and sintering the product.
