Monocyclopentadienyl-alkyl-phosphido, -oxido, -amino and -sulfido compounds (IA) of group 3 to 8 transition metals, with specified substituents, are new. New monocyclopentadienyl-alkyl-phosphido, -oxido, -amino- and -sulfido compounds (IA) of group 3 to 8 transition metals, with specified substituents, are represented by formula (I). Z = phosphorus (P), oxygen (O), nitrogen (N) or sulfur (S); M<4> = a group 3 to 8 element; R<2-5> = R or R' or together form a (substituted) cyclic system; R = hydrogen (H), 1-18 carbon (C) alkyl, 3-12 C cycloalkyl, 2-10 C alkenyl, 3-15 C alkylalkenyl, 6-18 C aryl, 5-18 C heteroaryl, 7-20 C arylalkyl or 7-20 C alkylaryl; R' = 1-12 C fluoroalkyl, 6-18 C fluoroaryl, 7-20 C fluoroarylalkyl or 7-20 C fluoroalkylaryl; R<6> = R; R<10> = H, halogen, 1-20 C hydrocarbyl, 6-20 C aryl, 6-20 C aryloxy or 1-20 C alkoxy; R<30> = R or R'; R<30> = are not identical groups if Z = N. Independent claims are also included for: (a) the preparation of compounds of formula (I) where R<10> = H, halogen, 1-18 C alkyl, 3-12 C cycloalkyl, 6-20 C aryl, 6-20 C aryloxy, 1-20 C alkoxy or a compound containing N; and R<30>= the same or different ligands.
