The panel (10) has an insulated glazing section with inner (11) and outer (12) glass panes and a water vapour and gas proof edge connection (13). The cavity (19) between the panes is filled with a heat insulating, infrared-opaque porous aerogel powder. The powder is pressed, evacuated and packed to form a vacuum insulation plate (14) in a diffusion-preventing cover of plastics film. Preferably, the vacuum insulation plate fills the cavity and has an edge seal (18).
