The invention relates to a catalyst support body (1) comprising a honeycomb structure (8) in an exhaust gas installation (23), for purifying an exhaust gas (2) of an internal combustion engine (3), said engine being suitable, in particular, for operating with a gaseous fuel. The catalyst support body (1) is permeable to the exhaust gas (2) in one flow direction (5) and has a first zone (6) and a second zone (7) that is different from the first, the zones positioned one behind the other in the direction of flow (5). The invention is characterised in that the first zone (6) has a higher surface-specific thermal capacity than the second zone (7) that is positioned downstream (5). This prevents an overheating of the catalyst support body as a result of a catalytic reaction of hydrocarbons in the fuel that have not been completely burnt.
