PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a highly purified bis-β- hydroxyethyl terephthalate useful for the production of a polyethylene terephthalate. SOLUTION: This method for distilling for purifying bis-β-hydroxyethyl terephthalate is provided by deionizing-treating a solution consisting of bis-β- hydroxyethyl terephtalate as a main solute and ethylene glycol as a main solvent, then adding at least one kind of phosphorus compound selected from a group consisting of an acidic phosphorus compound and its ester derivative to the solution by 3-300 ppm as phosphorus atom based on the above bis-β- hydroxyethyl terephthalate.
