The capacitor 12 is charged by a charging circuit 30. The output signal CP of a comparator 54 is inputted to a charge controlling part 50 as a charge voltage monitoring signal, and the charging circuit 30 is controlled so that a capacitor voltage Vg given to an input terminal on the one side of the comparator 54, conforms to a set voltage Vs given from a main controlling part 28. This power supply device has a direct designating mode for designating directly a capacitor voltage desired by a user and an indirect designating mode for designating by the user a standard current value becoming a criterion for the time being regarding a welding current Iw and setting automatically a capacitor voltage corresponding to a designated standard current value on the device (the main controlling part 28) side.
