PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical decanter type centrifugal separator having a rubber skirt being a solid matter discharge chute free from wear or sticking due to dehydrated solid matter even in the case of treating slurry of an inorganic material having large difference of the specific gravity from a liquid. SOLUTION: In the vertical decanter type centrifugal separator, the main part of which is constituted of a rotary bowl composed of a truncated cone part having a solid matter discharge port in the lower part minor diameter end side and a cylindrical part ranging to the upper part major diameter end side of the truncated cone part and having a separated liquid overflow port provided with a shuttering board on the upper part end plate, a screw conveyer arranged coaxially in the rotary bowl and rotating with a certain velocity difference with respect to the rotary bowl through a differential velocity device, an original liquid slurry supply pipe inserted into a shaft center part from a pipe inserting hole of the upper end plate and for supplying the original liquid slurry to the cylindrical part and a diversion rib plate connected successively to the lower end part of the original liquid slurry supply pipe and provided in the rotary bowl in the radial direction, a bell-jar type rubber skirt is provided to surround the whole solid matter discharge part including the solid matter discharge part from the outside.
