PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for forming a two-dimensionally encoded image in which a two-dimensionally encoded image requiring a smaller cell size than a one-dimensional code can be issued in the field by a thermal transfer system exhibiting excellent durability of print image where a printer can be maintained more easily than the inkjet system and defective reading due to excess or deficient ink is prevented in a solid cell. SOLUTION: When a two-dimensionally encoded image, comprising a set of image units determined by presence/absence of an ink dot in unit of cell formed of an adjacent group of a pixel corresponding to one dot, is formed on a print sheet while carrying the print sheet by means of a thermal transfer printer for forming the dot by thermally transferring ink through a thermal head, no ink dot is formed for all or a part of pixels located at the end or head of the print sheet in the carrying direction in an adjacent pixel group forming a cell unit when an image unit is formed by forming an ink dot in unit of cell.
