PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new unsaturated carboxylic acid ester having an unsaturated group and a hydroxy group, suitable to a wide application as a crosslinking agent and having an adequate polymerization reactivity, and to provide a method for manufacturing the unsaturated carboxylic acid ester without the rearrangement of a carbon-carbon unsaturated bond in an unsaturated oxirane of a raw material, and giving an one-to-one molar adduct with the unsaturated oxirane in a high yield. SOLUTION: The corresponding unsaturated carboxylic acid is reacted with an unsaturated oxirane in the presence of a catalyst consisting of one or more kinds of compounds of Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Zn, Ag, Sn, Nd or Pb to obtain an unsaturated carboxylic acid ester of general formula (1) [wherein, R1 to R3 are independently H or an organic group; X is formula 2 or 3 (wherein, R4 to R9 are each H or an alkyl); and n is an integer of >=1] at a ratio of one-mole adduct/(2-mole adduct + 3-mole adduct) of >=1 (by mole ratio).
