PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device not operating opening directional force on an upper frame when driving a carrier roller such as a separate roller arranged in the freely openable-closable upper frame. SOLUTION: This sheet carrying device is provided with a separate roller (the carrier roller) 18b arranged in the freely openable-closable upper frame 34 for opening a document carrying passage 16 and a third intermediate gear (a carrier roller driving gear) 49 arranged on the fixing side and meshing with a driven gear 18c of the separate roller 18b, and the third intermediate gear 49 is arranged on the opposite side of a shaft part 33 of an opening-closing support point of the upper frame 34 relative to the driven gear 18c of the separate roller 18b.
