PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling device and a cooling method of an attachment capable of efficiently cooling the attachment in a machine tool. SOLUTION: This cooling device 1 is mounted on the attachment 100 attached to a main body spindle of the machine tool. The cooling device 1 comprises heat conducting parts 40 and 50 for conducting the heat produced in the rotation of a spindle 130, to the cooling liquid, a heat exchanger for allowing the cooling liquid to radiate to be cool, and a circulation pump 30 for circulating the cooling liquid among the heat conducting parts 40 and 50 and the heat exchanger 20. Accordingly, the circumference of the spindle 130 of the attachment 100 can be surely cooled. Further by using the attachment 100 capable of increasing a speed of rotation of a working tool, holes of a small diameter can be formed at high rotation in a large machine tool, and the productivity can be remarkably improved.
