PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a porous body with fine pore diameter equal to or smaller than that of the prior art at a lower cost than that of the prior art. SOLUTION: This method of producing the porous body comprises a first process wherein a porous body precursor is obtained by introducing a surfactant into a silicate, a third process wherein the porous body precursor is brought into contact with an alkaline metal compound and/or an alkaline earth metal compound in an organic solvent, and a second process wherein the surfactant and/or constituents derived therefrom which are contained in the porous body precursor, are removed after the third process.
