Consequently, in a secondary battery which consists of an electrode group having a negative electrode 1 mainly of a hydrogen storage alloy shown as a general expression LnNixMnyAZ (where Ln is an element of a rate earth elements including La, A is Al or Co, arid the atomic ratio is 4.8<=x+y+Z<=5.4), and a positive electrode 2 mainly of a Ni compound, the Mn separated in the charge and discharge cycle does not penetrate the separator 3, and an internal short circuit can be prevented.
