The production of lanolin and wool free of non-contaminating agents comprises application of carbon dioxide in the presence of a suitable cosolvent. At above its critical point, the CO2 is varied in density (as a function of the pressure and the temperature), giving selective rapid and non-contaminating extraction. EMBODIMENT - The lanolin is of high purity, without damage to the fibre of the sheep wool or the lanolin lipid composition.
