PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognizing device and a character processing method which can perform the detection of the error of character recognition and the correction of character data efficiently even though the positional relation of characters is deviated. SOLUTION: The character recognizing device and the character processing method are provided with a means for displaying picture information, a means for recognizing a character pattern from the picture information, a means for matching the format of the recognized character pattern with the picture information, a means for matching the vertical set and the horizontal set of the recognized character pattern with the picture information, a means for changing the display color of the picture information and the display color of the character pattern obtained by matching the vertical set and the horizontal set with the format, a means for displaying the character pattern obtained by matching the vertical set and the horizontal set with the format overlapped with the display of the picture information in the state of hierarchical display, a means for moving the position of the hierarchical display of the character pattern, and a means for correcting the character pattern.
