The rotary fluid valve (9) has a housing with a pair of spigots (3,4) having flow bores and a rotor having a bore (10) for selective alignment with the spigots. The rotor has an annular groove (18) formed opposing each spigot and having a piston (19), which can extend radially to seal between its outer diameter and corresponding wall of the groove. The surface defined by the line of contact with the larger diameter of the piston and the spigot is smaller than the surface (Sa) of the opposing wall of the piston. The base of the annular grove is in communication with the spigot.
