PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To complete initialization of an exhaust gas recirculation means, which is performed in starting an engine to properly control exhaust gas recirculation, in an early stage in the engine comprising a stepper motor driving type exhaust gas recirculation means. SOLUTION: When an engine is discriminated to be started by automatic control basedo on an automatic starting function, an electronic control unit 10 of this exhaust gas recirculation control device drives an EGR valve 22 to close and initializes it to a fully closed position over smaller amount of driving and at a faster driving speed than the amount and the speed in starting the engine in response to a starting command by ignition key operation by a driver.
