摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bend alignment type liquid crystal display device which has no display defect because transition of the bend alignment is almost surely occurs and the transition is completed in an extremely short time, which has a fast response rate and a wide view field and which is suitable for displaying animation images, and to provide a method for manufacturing the device and a method for driving the liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal layer held between upper and lower substrates 500, 501. The liquid crystal shows splay alignment when no voltage is applied, and the device is subjected to the initialization treatment to cause transition of the alignment state of the liquid crystal layer from the splay alignment of the bend alignment by applying a voltage between substrates. Then the liquid crystal is driven in the initialized bend alignment state. In this device, when no voltage is applied, two liquid crystal regions H1, H2 are formed where the liquid crystal molecules 503 are aligned at opposite tilt angles to each other in the center part between the pair of upper and lower substrates.
