<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress side lobes in a wavelength characteristic relating to a device suitable for an acousto-optical tunable filter. SOLUTION: The device in accordance with this invention comprises a substrate, optical waveguides 11, 12 formed on the substrate, an inter-digital transducer(IDT) 16 which is formed on the substrate and generates a surface acoustic wave, a waveguide structure 6 of the surface acoustic wave for propagating the surface acoustic wave generated from the IDT along the optical waveguide, and a buffer layer 18 lying between the substrate and the IDT so that an amplitude distribution about the direction perpendicular to the propagation direction of the surface acoustic wave generated by the IDT is weighted.</p> |
