PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive image pickup device whose processing time is short and that can properly pick up an image of a gray scale scene having a high luminous quantity ratio or a scene easily causing a color failure or the like such as a rear light scene with a large luminous quantity ratio between a major object and a background or a strobe scene. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with an optical system lens and with an image pickup means that picks up an image of an object formed via the optical system lens, and a luminous quantity adjustment means that partially adjusts the luminous quantity of the image of the object is provided between the optical system lens and the image pickup means in an optical path for light carrying the image of the object to solve the task above.
