Fruit labelling machine which applies label which screens light to allow permanent marking via blanching/non-blanching after label removal

A method for labelling fruit which change colour (ripen) on exposure to light. A label having loose peripheral edges (4) and an opaque design (7) formed on a transparent material (6) is placed on the fruit before it ripens. After the fruit has ripened the label may be removed from the fruit via mechanical means, aided by the loose edges, leaving the design formed on the fruit as an area of contrasting colour.
