PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery with superior cycling characteristics compatible with a high discharge capacity by using a newly developed material for a negative electrode. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte battery is composed of a positive electrode, the negative electrode comprising an active substance for the negative electrode, that absorbs and liberates an alkaline metal and the nonaqueous electrolyte. The active substance for the negative electrode comprises at least a kind of 4B and 5B family elements, in which its crystalline structure is composed of at least one kind of structure selected from among groups in which BiF3 type structure, Cu2MnAl type one, and AgAsMg type one are comprised. |
