PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an arrangement space for a transmission mechanism to transmit the drive power of a motor for speed change to the speed change gear of each pulley. SOLUTION: A continuously variable transmission comprises a drive pulley 11 having a speed change gear 14d and a screw mechanism 14; a driven pulley 21 having a speed change gear 22d and a screw mechanism 22; and a belt 15 running around and between the drive pulley and the driven pulley. The speed change gears 14d and 22d are rotated by a motor 40 for speed change and moving sheaves 11b and 21b are axially moved through the screw mechanisms 14 and 22. The speed change gears 14d and 22d form a gear having diameter larger than that of the moving sheave of each pulley. The drive force of the motor 40 for speed change is transmitted to a speed change shaft 45 and transmitted to the speed change gear 14d from a gear 45a mounted on the speed change shaft 45 and to the speed change gear 22d of the driven pulley 21 through idler gears 46a and 46b. This constitution synchronously rotates the speed change gears 14d and 22d by the single motor 40 for speed change.
