PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent resolution being deteriorated when converting resolution of an image in a matrix type display device such as a liquid crystal display and a plasma display. SOLUTION: This image converter comprises a 4-tapped transversal type filter to which input picture data are sequentially inputted and from which the output pixel data is outputted after the four input pixel data supplied to each tap have been multiplied by prescribed respective tap coefficients and then summed, and a tap coefficient setting means for setting the tap coefficients, and the tap coefficients set by the tap coefficient setting means are decided by a prescribed quartic function formula according to distances x between the input pixels and the output pixel corresponding to the four input pixel data supplied to each tap of the transversal type filter.
