The invention relates to an antitussive composition for oral administration. According to the invention, the antitussive composition comprises from 0.5 to twice the standard dose of a centrally acting antitussive substance or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and benzydamine in an amount ranging from 1/200 to twice the amount by weight of the centrally acting antitussive substance or the equivalent amount of the pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, meant for oral administration.
