PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a core for an induction coil, which is operable at frequencies from 50 kHz to 1 MHz inclusive. SOLUTION: The core 2a is used for an induction coil 2 of a discharge lamp, equipped with a bulb 1 enclosed with a discharge gas and the induction coil 2, that generates an electromagnetic field with frequency from 50 kHz to 1 MHz inclusive within the bulb 1. The core 2a is made of polycrystalline ferrite of Mn-Zn series and has Curie temperature of or higher than 270 deg.C.
