PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which the shape of a thin metal ring used for a metal belt-type variable speed drive and to provide a manufacturing method in which the thin metal ring is manufactured. SOLUTION: The measuring apparatus is provided with sandwiching and holding means 21, 22 by which the thin metal ring 1 is sandwiched and held in at least one place of the metal ring 1 so as to be freely detachable. The measuring apparatus is provided with ring-side-edge measuring means 24, 25, 26 which measure shapes on one side edge or both side edges of the sandwiching and holding part of the metal ring 1 sandwiched and held by the means 21, 22.
